Maximiliano Arrocet was made a director of AL_A in 2012 having joined the office in 2007. He led the design of the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology in Lisbon and is currently leading the design for Pitch/Pitch, a new concept for inner-city stackable football pitches and the design for Maggie’s Centre in Southampton. Maximiliano also leads a number of private residential projects and has an expertise in bespoke contemporary and historic detailing.

AL_A is an award-winning architecture studio founded by RIBA Stirling Prize winner Amanda Levete, with ongoing projects including a new centre for the cancer care charity Maggie’s in Southampton; two new buildings for Wadham College at the University of Oxford and the transformation of Paisley Museum in Scotland.

In this lecture, Max will explore the V&A Exhibition Road Quarter, its narrative and the impact of the design on both the institution and South Kensington – a neighbourhood transformed in the C19th as ‘Albertopolis’, a vision to create London’s cultural quarter in the heart of the city. He will then discuss the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) in Lisbon and how the project has transformed the Tagus riverfront and reconnected it to the city.
